Tuesday November 21st 2023 - Thanksgiving road trip to Oregon - Days 4 - 7 - Family time in Eugene and road trip start from Eugene to Cheyenne WY

Finding time that aligns with available cell phone or wi-fi coverage has been tough this past 4 days.  My time in Eugene went by very quickly.  I helped my family with a few minor computer tasks on Saturday mostly.  We had some good meals and my step-mother participated in a swap meet type sale that my Dad and I helped deliver and remove merchandise from at the start and end of the day on Sunday.

The trip to move the furniture started VERY early Monday morning. We left before 6 am and headed briefly south on I-5 then east on OR-58 to US-97, North on US-97 briefly then south on OR-31 to Lakeview.  From there we took OR and eventually NV-140 down to Winnemucca.  After lunch and a brief casino visit, we drove east on a nearly empty I-80 to Elko where we had another casino visit and dinner.  The end point for our day was a topic of much discussion and ultimately, we stayed in Wendover Utah which is an interesting contrast with West Wendover Nevada which is largely dominated by casinos.  Wendover Utah of course has no casinos but it has a lot of hotels.

Tuesday started early but maybe not quite as early as Monday. We bombed out a lot of miles on I-80 passing through the very undeveloped salt flats region and skirting through a little bit of Salt Lake City using some side streets to navigate around a nasty looking delay on I-80 in a construction zone.  Excitingly, almost all of the driving we did today AFTER Salt Lake City was new territory for me.  We drove US-189 south from I-80 to Heber City.  From Heber City we took US-40 East all the way through the rest of Utah and much of Colorado.  It was a scenic and sometimes remote drive and for the most part very good conditions.  Near Steamboat Springs CO we headed NE on CO-14 which was more remote even than much of US-40.  That connected to CO-125 and then CO-127 up to the Wyoming border where it became WY-230 which took us into Laramie.  We had a good steak dinner in Laramie which was a nice contrast to the otherwise very mundane and economical food we've been eating so far on this trip.

Photos are mostly from US-40 (in Utah and Colorado) and CO-14.

Tuesday ended (driving wise at least) around 8 pm. Just in time for me to do some work from 8 pm until after 11 pm.  Another long day for sure.

Tomorrow should see us going through Nebraska mostly.  I hope to walk around Scottsbluff and stay in O'Neil Nebraska.  2 somewhat obscure places I enjoy.
