Tuesday July 7th 2026 - Webster Park - Webster NY (suburban Rochester) - 2.6 miles, 105 feet elevation gain

I thought this would be a park we'd never been to before but when we actually arrived it seemed like this was just another part of Whiting Road nature preserve.  It was certainly a different section of trail than we've done before and Whiting Road nature preserve is a really great park for a suburban city park.

The Alltrails description for this hike said we were unlikely to encounter other hikers and it was certainly the case today.  Parts of the trail were a little muddy and some had light overgrowth.  I kind of expeted a wide gravel covered trail so we didn't bring the hiking boots or bug spray.  Still, for a 'pre-dinner' weeknight hike, it was good.

Sunday December 27th - Day 7 of fly and drive trip to Oregon - Idaho Falls Idaho to Thermopolis WY

Today was an exciting and scenery filled day.  I woke up to thankfully only a few more inches of snow more than were there when I got to the hotel in Idaho Falls.  The roads in town were awful just like they were when I arrived the night before so I was concerned that the entire day could be difficult.  Amazingly, the highways improved dramatically, seemingly at the city limits.  I had hoped to go through Cody Wyoming today to visit the museum my friend from Oregon recommended but ID-31 had a chain control in effect so I stayed on US-26 which took me further south and added miles both.  I did get to go over top of 9500 foot tall Togwotee pass and I had a good walk along the river in Dubois WY.  The photos do a pretty good job of showing the types of scenery I experienced today.  Other than than snowmobile recreation users at very high altitudes there were virtually no other cars.  I mean many minutes between even seeing one oncoming vehicle and vi...

March 14 - 17, Tulsa and Oklahoma City, OK

By Brian Gilbar (some additions by Chris) Saturday we headed to Tulsa, OK.  It was a long drive in from the panhandle but we each drove half and the day went by quickly.  We stopped for lunch at Pub on the Bricks in Guymon, OK.  The food was good and it seemed like a nice, friendly town.  Once in Tulsa we decided to head right out to dinner to an Italian restaurant Chris had eaten at before, Dalesandros.  The food was amazing, but the portions were way too big.  We could have easily shared.  Chris has chicken cacciatore and I had a carbonara with two kinds of bacon...so delicious!  We then went out for a couple drinks at the Tulsa Eagle.  Not many people there but we had a lot of fun and it was relaxing. April 9,10 Richmond VA

By Chris Ransdell Friday's drive from Charlotte to Richmond was pretty straight forward.  Some of the local expressways around Richmond, in particular VA-288, were beautifully built and maintained.  This was our first stay at a Hyatt House hotel.  Hyatt House is probably in the same vein as Residence Inn or other extended stay hotels.  Hyatt really takes things to a high level though and it was a very welcoming and upscale place to be at.  The location seemed odd at first, directly adjacent to a new lifestyle (outdoor) mall.  I worked quite a bit the day we arrived and was very tempted to make dinner on the tiny but beautiful two burner smooth top stove in the room.  Instead we ate at PF Changs at the other upscale mall across town.  There was an impressively long causeway over the James river on the way to the other mall.
