Sunday June 21st 2026 - Number 3 reservoir - Bradford PA - 4.4 miles, 210 feet elevation gain

I presented Brian with 3 options for getting some sort of hike in for our day.  1 was relatively close to home, one was really close to home and the third was from a brochure I had laying around in a basket of travel ideas.  The brochure was about the Allegheny area of Pennsylvania and included a decent list of hiking ideas but very little detail about each one.  Based on just a nice photo and the desire to have our adventure take up most of the day, we headed out to Bradford PA, just south of the NY border.

The reservoir is a really beautiful body of water.  There are a few different trails but we wanted to walk the 'Marilla Bridge Trail' but we knew very little about it.  Though described in the brochure as a 2.2 mile trail, it actually goes on considerably farther.  It starts by going over the namesake bridge then around half the reservoir before heading off deeper into a lushly forested area.  We only went about as far as the brochure brochure said the trail was but along the way we saw a sign warning people that the trail was not a loop and that the end point was 4.5 miles beyond where we were passing.

The weather was fantastic on this day and it really enhanced our hike.  After the Marilla Bridge trail we drove up to the 'upper' reservoir which had almost nobody at it.  While it wasn't a big hike day we'd really enjoyed our walk and didn't feel the need to do any more so we just briefly looked at the upper pond then drove back down the long gravel road to get back to Bradford for lunch.

Sunday December 27th - Day 7 of fly and drive trip to Oregon - Idaho Falls Idaho to Thermopolis WY

Today was an exciting and scenery filled day.  I woke up to thankfully only a few more inches of snow more than were there when I got to the hotel in Idaho Falls.  The roads in town were awful just like they were when I arrived the night before so I was concerned that the entire day could be difficult.  Amazingly, the highways improved dramatically, seemingly at the city limits.  I had hoped to go through Cody Wyoming today to visit the museum my friend from Oregon recommended but ID-31 had a chain control in effect so I stayed on US-26 which took me further south and added miles both.  I did get to go over top of 9500 foot tall Togwotee pass and I had a good walk along the river in Dubois WY.  The photos do a pretty good job of showing the types of scenery I experienced today.  Other than than snowmobile recreation users at very high altitudes there were virtually no other cars.  I mean many minutes between even seeing one oncoming vehicle and vi...

March 14 - 17, Tulsa and Oklahoma City, OK

By Brian Gilbar (some additions by Chris) Saturday we headed to Tulsa, OK.  It was a long drive in from the panhandle but we each drove half and the day went by quickly.  We stopped for lunch at Pub on the Bricks in Guymon, OK.  The food was good and it seemed like a nice, friendly town.  Once in Tulsa we decided to head right out to dinner to an Italian restaurant Chris had eaten at before, Dalesandros.  The food was amazing, but the portions were way too big.  We could have easily shared.  Chris has chicken cacciatore and I had a carbonara with two kinds of bacon...so delicious!  We then went out for a couple drinks at the Tulsa Eagle.  Not many people there but we had a lot of fun and it was relaxing. March 21 - 23, Kerrville, TX, San Antonio dinner/bar and Lost Maples hike

By Chris Ransdell Our first full day in Kerrville was Saturday.  I worked 4.5 hours and Brian did laundry and looked at job stuff in PA.  It was rainy but started to clear up in the afternoon.  First we went to a Western Museum which was ok. We drove out to Enchanted Rock which was 'open' but the trails were not so that was kind of a bust. We decided to go to San Antonio for dinner and to check out the night life.  By the time we got ready to actually leave it was 7 pm so there was only an hour of daylight but it was enough to get through the curviest parts of TX-16 towards San Antonio.  We saw some deer on the way. They are small deer called "chital".  It was way after 8 when we arrived at Buffalo Wild Wings in outer San Antonio and we were hungry.  After dinner we made a brief visit to 'The Annex' which is a dive bar near downtown.  It was heavy on the dive aspect and not so much on having interesting (or even all that many) people for us...
