Sunday August 30th 2026 - Isaac Gordon Nature Park - Penfield NY (near home) - 1.7 miles, 85 feet elevation gain

This was just a quick walk on the way to dinner at Cracker Barrel.  We went to this park once before but this time we took nearly every junction along the trail to take us to the outer extremities of the roughly rectangular shape of the park.  There is a main trail that makes a slightly shorter loop around the park but the outer areas we went to this time included a little more variety in terrain. It was pretty humid and warm, one of those days when getting ANY hike in seems like an accomplishment.

Sunday December 27th - Day 7 of fly and drive trip to Oregon - Idaho Falls Idaho to Thermopolis WY

Today was an exciting and scenery filled day.  I woke up to thankfully only a few more inches of snow more than were there when I got to the hotel in Idaho Falls.  The roads in town were awful just like they were when I arrived the night before so I was concerned that the entire day could be difficult.  Amazingly, the highways improved dramatically, seemingly at the city limits.  I had hoped to go through Cody Wyoming today to visit the museum my friend from Oregon recommended but ID-31 had a chain control in effect so I stayed on US-26 which took me further south and added miles both.  I did get to go over top of 9500 foot tall Togwotee pass and I had a good walk along the river in Dubois WY.  The photos do a pretty good job of showing the types of scenery I experienced today.  Other than than snowmobile recreation users at very high altitudes there were virtually no other cars.  I mean many minutes between even seeing one oncoming vehicle and vi...

March 14 - 17, Tulsa and Oklahoma City, OK

By Brian Gilbar (some additions by Chris) Saturday we headed to Tulsa, OK.  It was a long drive in from the panhandle but we each drove half and the day went by quickly.  We stopped for lunch at Pub on the Bricks in Guymon, OK.  The food was good and it seemed like a nice, friendly town.  Once in Tulsa we decided to head right out to dinner to an Italian restaurant Chris had eaten at before, Dalesandros.  The food was amazing, but the portions were way too big.  We could have easily shared.  Chris has chicken cacciatore and I had a carbonara with two kinds of bacon...so delicious!  We then went out for a couple drinks at the Tulsa Eagle.  Not many people there but we had a lot of fun and it was relaxing. Monday January 16th 2023 - Hemlock/Canadice lakes connector trail - Near Hemlock NY - 5.2 miles, about 900 feet of elevation gain

Where to start this story...  This hike starts at a gorgeous overlook right off of NY-15A.  The Nature Conservancy built 'Rob's Trail' a few years ago and it leads from the trailhead down hundreds of feet to the lake level of Hemlock lake.  We've done the Hemlock Lake hike about 3 times, once with our friend Gene .  We even tried doing this connector trail one other time but it was a very hot and humid day and to be honest, my mood was so awful that I should have just stayed home that day . Originally we were going to head relatively far from home for a 6-mile-long hike with modest elevation gain.  Brian suggested we revisit this lake to lake trail closer to home which was a good idea since we spent plenty of time in the car Saturday.  The first quarter mile of the trail is shared with the Hemlock lake trail (called Rob's trail).  Then there is a split and the Canadice Lake trail heads back towards and eventually crosses NY-15A before going down toward...
