Firday May 7th, 2021 - W.C. Johnson Park - Collierville TN - 2 miles - Little elevation gain
I'm on a work trip to Memphis and since I lived here before I was exciting to have the chance to revisit some old favorite places. After an exciting busy day Friday at work I was so happy to meet up with my friend John from Nashville. We squeezed in a few miles walk in the glorious afternoon sun at this rather deluxe city park in Collierville near where I used to live when I worked at FedEx.
The weather all day Friday was astonishingly perfect. After a brief but impressive storm on Thursday the air quality was crystal clear and the humidity very low. This park has a lot of facilities including several softball fields and other sports stuff and almost 3/4 of a mile of elevated boardwalk over a surprisingly remote feeling area of swampy bayou type scenery. The boardwalk ends at a turn in the (very muddy at present) Wolf River. The boardwalk is wonderful because it is not muddy or snake infested as I would imaging that area often would be outside the boardwalk.
After getting to the loop at the end of the boardwalk we tried taking the white blazed 'primary primitive trail' back to a different part of the large developed section of the park with the sports facilities and lovely air conditioned public restrooms etc.
It was a good chance to chat with John and calm down after a somewhat overstimulating day. Afterwards we went to a new Germantown location of the old Memphis standard SoulFish Cafe.
