Saturday January 9th - Keuka Outlet Trail - near Pen Yan NY - ~4.5 miles, minimal elevation gain

This was a surprisingly great trail.  It was one of those trails that I see on Alltrails often but had always passed over.  From the looks of it on the map I assumed it would be an almost urban walk with just 1 interesting water feature.  It turned out to be a lovely trail along a vigorous creek with multiple interesting water features and a lot of abandoned buildings and ruins giving interesting glimpses into the past of this area.

The drive down was very relaxing, there was no traffic and considering it was below freezing and snowy, conditions were very good with almost no wind and nothing wet or sloppy since it was just cold enough to stay frozen.  Most of the trail was in what was basically a canyon.  This helped make it feel like an isolated little path since even the little roads that went near the trailhead were all above the bluffs and out of sight.

After the hike we drove into Pen Yan and explored downtown, buying way too much candy at the Candy Emporium and then having a hearty lunch (which we opted to eat in the car) from Angel's Family Restaurant.  It was a really satisfying full day.
