July 26, 2024 - Canadian Cruise Vacation Day 7 - Sea Day 2
This sea day went by very nicely. There isn’t a lot of exceptional news to report.
I had asked early on in the cruise if there were any behind the scenes culinary tours scheduled for this sailing. The guest services officer said there were not but we could request a bridge tour if we wanted. It took several days but we did hear back from the bridge department and were invited to tour the bridge. There were 11 people on this tour. I was impressed with one of the younger women on our tour who asked some of the same questions I was going to ask about how waste is processed etc. Interestingly, both gray and black water are treated and typically discharged when the ship is in open seas. We learned the usual things about how many diesel generators there are on the ship (6) and about how they slow down for whales etc. The bridge crew was mostly Italian which is an interesting contrast to the majority of servers and cabin crew who are at least majority Philippines. It was great hearing the young 2nd and 3rd officers talking about their future aspirations and career path. The view from the bridge is impressive since it is wider than any other part of the ship.
One thing an officer mentioned on the bridge tour was the view from ‘Monkey Island’ which sounded interesting. After dinner, Brian and I made a point to find Monkey Island, the adults only area (the Sanctuary) and also we checked out the nightclub though it was very quiet early in the evening. All of these things were on decks 16-19 which don’t cover the length of the ship, only in the aft section I think. We also walked a full lap on the outdoor promenade, something which I passed on doing earlier in the cruise. It was romantic walking on the nearly empty outdoor deck with the wind blowing. That we were still in our formal clothes from dinner added to the experience.
