Saturday July 25th - Rob's trail near Springwater NY - 200 feet elevation gain estimaged - 3 miles

This was a revisit to Rob's trail which leads down to Hemlock Lake.  We noticed the other time we were here that there is a junction, not very far into the trail, that leads off to Canadice Lake.  Canadice lies just East of Hemlock Lake and is considerably smaller.  The connector trail let us back up the little bit of hill we had gone down and then veered back towards the same road we were parked along (unsurprisingly) to get to the other side.  Unfortunately, on the other side of NY-15A, the trail was more grass than dirt and instead of forested it was more of a set of scrubby fields.  The grass was wet and there were multiple unlabeled junctions.  We muddled around for a little bit but I was hot and sweaty and not in the best mood. Finally we came to a junction where it appeared one trail went down to the lake immediately and the other was a mystery. We opted to take the mystery trail and it eventually curved around and rejoined the path we'd already walked earlier.  By that time, I had no desire to backtrack on either of the wet trails and I was done.  It was a very disappointing hike for Brian and not particularly enjoyed by me either but sometimes hot summer days and unfamiliar areas don't work out the way we wish they would. We went on another walk later in the day which was different but also not great.
